Inside the fence, there is a bridge with an artwork by the Swedish artist and graffiti painter Puppet. Puppet has been active since 1984 and was one of the first generation of graffiti artists in Stockholm. As a young graffiti artist in the 80s, he was inspired by the subway graffiti in New York.
In his works at Subtopia, we recognize the grid pattern that has become a part of his signature as an artist. In the style known as grid style, Puppet constructs an image using a grid pattern, which becomes like a net that he stretches and pulls in the motif.
Puppet’s works contain playful whims and sudden turns, but always with a serious undertone. Symbolically, bridges mean a lot to Puppet, and he often makes connections to them in his works. The bridge represents life, relationships, the past, and the present. He has also painted hidden messages on the bridge, mostly notes for himself, serving as a reminder of where he is at that moment.
