Next to the tree with the neon leaf, is an artwork by the American street artist Adine. She was visiting her brother who was studying circus and when she walked around the Subtopia surroundings she saw the variety of artwork and wanted to be a part of it. She created her piece spontaneously and when we came back from our summer vacation we noticed metal eyes on two columns. We had to search for a while before we found her.
When Adine was studying photography in Spain she wondered about how photography can meet metal. She began to experiment with different materials and transferred images onto metal that then rusted.
The artwork at Subtopia is based on her own eyes, and she has previously worked with bones and the heart as shapes. The style is inspired by old photographs and film photos, and she often uses pictures of herself or people close to her.
Adine has often used her eyes as a motif on the streets of New York and in the subway to induce a big-brother-is-watching-you-concept of being monitored.
