In a sculpture studio in the Subtopia area, artist Henrik Ekesiöö has been active since the late 1990s. Ekesiöö, who has previously exhibited at venues such as Liljevalchs and Färgfabriken, runs a workshop where a growing fleet of machinery coexists with the creation of sculptures and, as seen here, public art installations.
The work before you is a transformed parking sign titled ”This is not a parking space.” The inspiration stems from the intersection of abstract expressionism and the aesthetics of graffiti. He is fascinated by homemade “DIY culture”—similar to how one might rebuild an old car into a police car. For Ekesiöö, art is an alternative way of storytelling, prompting the viewer to reflect on human narratives.
